The Before I do Method™ · Book Set

The premarital book every couple actually needs.

Two companion volumes — the Guide to read together and the Workbook to write in together. Fifty chapters covering the conversations most couples never have until it's too late. Written for heterosexual, LGBTQ+, and polyamorous couples together — the first of its kind.

Before 'I do' — The Complete Premarital Preparation Guide and Workbook, two-book set
Who It's For

Three readers. One shared toolkit.

The Guide and the Workbook were built to hold up whether you're the couple, the clinician, or the clergy leader walking a couple through the year before the wedding.

For the Couple

Engaged & Committed Couples

Work through the conversations that matter most before the wedding — communication, money, sex, family, faith, kids, and the future you're actually building. At your own pace. On your own couch.

For the Clinician

Therapists Using It With Clients

A structured, session-ready framework for premarital work in your practice. Assign chapters between sessions, use the workbook prompts in-room, and give your clients a resource they can keep long after termination.

For the Clergy

Clergy Preparing Couples

A clinical, evidence-informed companion to your existing premarital tradition. Culturally responsive language, inclusive frameworks, and prompts that hold space for spiritual and secular couples alike.

What Makes This Different

Not another wedding-planning workbook.

Most premarital resources ask you to plan the wedding. This one asks you to prepare for the marriage — the whole marriage, in all its complexity.

01

First of Its Kind — For All Couples

The only premarital workbook written for heterosexual, LGBTQ+, and polyamorous couples together. No separate editions. No footnotes. Every couple reads the same book.

02

50 Chapters, One Full Year

A chapter a week for a full year of engagement — or drop into the topics that matter most for your relationship. Structured enough to guide, flexible enough to follow you.

03

Built on Clinical Practice

Every chapter is grounded in the research and shaped by more than ten years of the author's premarital and couples work in an active clinical practice. Not theory-only. Not blog-post advice.

04

Culturally Responsive

Written for the couples most premarital books quietly leave out — interracial, intercultural, interfaith, multiracial. Language and prompts that assume difference is part of the room, not the exception.

05

Guide + Workbook, Not Just One

The Guide is the read — the narrative companion that gives you the frameworks. The Workbook is the write-in — prompts, exercises, and conversations you actually work through together. Two volumes, one method.

06

Trauma-Informed Throughout

Every prompt is written with attachment history, past hurt, and disclosure in mind. Consent-aware pacing. Space to pause. Room to say, "not tonight."

Frequently Asked

Questions before you order.

If you don't see what you're looking for, email hello@mymhuniversity.com and we'll answer directly.

When will the books ship?
Both the Guide and the Workbook ship in September 2026. Orders are fulfilled in the order they were placed — order early to get one of the first copies off the press.
Where do you ship?
Print orders ship to the United States only for launch. International readers can join the newsletter for updates on international editions and digital formats.
Print or digital?
The launch edition of both the Guide and the Workbook is print — the workbook was designed to be written in by hand, and we wanted the reading experience to match. A digital companion is on the roadmap for after launch.
Is this book inclusive of LGBTQ+ and polyamorous couples?
Yes — that is the entire premise of the project. The Complete Premarital Preparation Workbook is the first premarital workbook written for heterosexual, LGBTQ+, and polyamorous couples together in one book. Language, prompts, and case examples were built to hold every couple structure without asterisks or separate editions.
What's your refund policy?
All sales are final. We do not offer refunds, exchanges, or returns on the Guide, the Workbook, or the Complete Set once your order is placed.
Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing?
Yes — clergy, clinics, universities, and premarital programs can request bulk pricing for orders of 10 or more copies. Email hello@mymhuniversity.com with your quantity and use case and we'll send a quote.
