Are My Mental Health University CE courses approved by NBCC for counselor continuing education?
Great question — and the answer requires a small clarification. NBCC approves the provider, not the individual courses. My Mental Health University® is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP #7739), which means our courses carry CE credit eligible through that approval. Every course with CE hours has been designed to meet the standards outlined in our ACEP scope.
How many NBCC continuing education credits does each My Mental Health University CE course earn?
Most courses are 1 CE credit (1 clock hour). We deliberately cap course length at one hour so you can knock out required CE without blocking off half a day. Bundle multiple courses together to fill larger CE requirements.
How long do I have to complete a My Mental Health University CE course after purchase?
Once you enroll, you have 12 months of unlimited access. Log in, pause, come back, review the material as often as you like inside that window.
Does My Mental Health University issue a CE certificate of completion for licensure documentation?
Yes. After you pass the post-test with 80% or higher, your certificate of completion is issued instantly and is downloadable from your account for the life of the enrollment.
Do My Mental Health University CE courses satisfy state licensure continuing education requirements for LCPCs, LMFTs, and LCSWs?
Most state boards accept CE hours earned through NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Providers, but board rules vary. You are responsible for confirming acceptance with your specific state licensing board before enrolling. If you'd like, screenshot the course description and email your board directly — they'll usually respond within a few business days.
What happens if I don't pass the end-of-course quiz on a My Mental Health University CE course?
You can retake the post-test as many times as needed to pass, at no additional cost. The goal is that you leave with the material integrated — not that you get it right on the first try.
What is My Mental Health University's refund policy for online CE courses once accessed?
Because courses are digital with instant access, all sales are final once the course has been opened. If you have not yet accessed the material and would like a refund, email hello@mymhuniversity.com within 7 days of purchase and we'll process it.

CPMS™ Credential

What is the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) credential and who created it?
CPMS™ is a specialty credential developed for licensed mental health clinicians who want to work more skillfully with couples preparing for marriage. It is grounded in The Before I do Method™ and combines clinical rigor with culturally responsive, trauma-informed practice — explicitly built to work for all couples, including LGBTQIA+ blended, interfaith, and polyamorous relationships.
Who is eligible to earn the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) credential in Phase 1?
Phase 1 is open to LICENSED CLINICIANS only — LCPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, psychologists, and equivalent independently licensed mental health professionals.
When will Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) credential tracks open for clergy and coaches?
Clergy and coach tracks are coming soon. Both will follow the same core Method with adapted assessment and scope-of-practice guidance for those settings. Join the newsletter to be notified when enrollment opens.
How long does the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) Foundation Course take to complete?
The Foundation Course is designed to be completed in 4–6 weeks of self-paced study. Most clinicians finish within a month once they set aside a couple of dedicated evenings per week. Community office hours run monthly to support you through it.
What benefits and resources do Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) members receive?
The credential itself (letters after your name), a featured listing in the Premarital Counseling Directory, private community access with other CPMS™-certified clinicians, monthly office hours with Olivia, ongoing case consultation, and referral routing when couples reach out looking for a specialist in your area.
How much does the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) credential cost for clinicians?
The CPMS™ Certification Pathway is one credential earned in steps. Every tier is built on the Before I do Method™.
- Introduction to Premarital Counseling — $497 · 10 NBCC CE hours. A focused introductory course covering the Method and its research base, with training manual, questionnaires, post-test, and a certificate of completion. No post-name credential. Completing it opens founding enrollment in the Specialist certification.
- CPMS Specialist — $2,495 · 50 NBCC CE hours. ★ The core credential: complete Method training, certification exam, listing in the Premarital Counseling Directory, and the post-name credential (CPMS).
- CPMS Lead Premarital Specialist — $2,997. Everything in Specialist, plus authorization to teach the Method, a premium directory listing, and wholesale workbook pricing.
- CPMS Master Premarital Specialist — $5,997. Everything in Lead, plus authorization to certify Lead Premarital Specialists, master-level training, and revenue share.
Annual renewal: $197/year (all certified tiers). Full-Pathway (All-Access): $9,997.

Does the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist (CPMS) credential require annual renewal?
Yes. To keep your credential current, members complete a light annual renewal that keeps your training aligned with the current version of The Before I do Method™. Renewal is included with active membership.

What is the difference between the Before "I do" online premarital course and the printed Guide and Workbook?
The course (Before "I do" on ThriveCart) is our live, video-driven premarital program couples work through together at their own pace.
The books (the Guide + Workbook) are the print companions — designed to be used with or without the course, or by clinicians and clergy alongside their own premarital work. Many couples do all three; some just want the books. Both paths are valid.
Is the Before "I do" premarital course inclusive of LGBTQIA+ and polyamorous couples?
Yes — explicitly. Before "I do" is the first premarital preparation resource of its kind designed from the ground up to work for all couples, including LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, blended, interfaith, and intercultural relationships. The Method holds space for the actual shape of your relationship — not a template that assumes one kind of couple.
Do couples need a therapist to complete the Before "I do" premarital course, or can they use it independently?

Can partners complete the Before "I do" premarital course separately or does it require working together?
Both — and we recommend a parallel-then-together rhythm. Each partner works through the Workbook prompts independently, then you come back together for structured conversations. That way you're bringing your actual thoughts to the table, not just co-signing your partner's answers in real time.
What is the refund policy for the Before "I do" premarital course and books?

Which Maryland licensed professionals are required to complete domestic violence awareness training under HB 1547?
Maryland-licensed cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians, nail technicians, and massage therapists are required to complete domestic violence awareness training as part of their license renewal cycle. If you're licensed under the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists (or a related board), this training is for you.
