Continuing Education
CE credit eligible through My Mental Health University®, an Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP #7739).
Is My Mental Health University® an approved continuing education provider for counselors?
Yes. NBCC approves the provider, not the individual courses. My Mental Health University® has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7739. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. My Mental Health University® is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
How many CE credits does each My Mental Health University® course earn?
Each course lists its CE credits on the course card. Most single courses run 1 to 2.5 CE hours, so you can finish required CE without blocking off a whole day. The CPMS™ pathway courses are longer: Introduction to Premarital Practice awards 11 CE credits and CPMS™ Specialist awards 16. Bundle multiple courses together to fill larger CE requirements.
How long do I have to complete a My Mental Health University® CE course after purchase?
Once you enroll, you have 12 months of unlimited access. Log in, pause, come back, review the material as often as you like inside that window.
Does My Mental Health University® issue a CE certificate of completion for licensure documentation?
Yes. After you pass the post-test with 80% or higher, your certificate of completion is issued instantly and is downloadable from your account for the life of the enrollment.
Do My Mental Health University® CE courses satisfy state licensure continuing education requirements for LCPCs, LMFTs, and LCSWs?
Many state boards accept CE hours earned through NBCC Approved Continuing Education Providers, but board rules vary. You are responsible for confirming acceptance with your specific state licensing board before enrolling. If you'd like, screenshot the course description and email your board directly, since boards usually respond within a few business days.
What happens if I don't pass the end-of-course quiz on a My Mental Health University® CE course?
You can retake the post-test as many times as needed to pass, at no additional cost. The goal is that you leave with the material integrated, not that you get it right on the first try.
What is My Mental Health University®'s refund policy for online CE courses once accessed?
Because courses are digital with instant access, all sales are final once the course has been opened. If you have not yet accessed the material and would like a refund, email hello@mymhuniversity.com within 7 days of purchase and we'll process it.

Every course is fully on-demand and self-paced. Watch on your schedule, pause and resume, and revisit any section during your 12-month enrollment window.
CPMS™ Credential
The specialty credential for clinicians who want to work skillfully with couples preparing for marriage.
What is the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) credential and who created it?
CPMS™ is a specialty credential developed for licensed mental health clinicians who want to work more skillfully with couples preparing for marriage. It is grounded in The Before I Do Method™ and combines clinical rigor with culturally responsive, trauma-informed practice, and it is built to work for all couples, including LGBTQIA+, blended, interfaith, and polyamorous relationships.
Who is eligible to earn the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) credential in Phase 1?
Phase 1 is open to LICENSED CLINICIANS only, including LCPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, psychologists, and equivalent independently licensed mental health professionals.
When will Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) credential tracks open for clergy and coaches?
Clergy and coach tracks are coming soon. Both will follow The Before I Do Method™ with adapted assessment and scope-of-practice guidance for those settings. In the meantime, clergy, coaches, and officiants can join the Premarital Counseling Directory™ community. Join the newsletter to be notified when enrollment opens.
How long does the CPMS™ Introduction course take to complete?
Most clinicians finish Introduction to Premarital Practice in two to four weeks working part-time. It is fully self-paced with 12 months of unlimited access, so you can also go slower or return to it as a reference.
What benefits and resources do Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) members receive?
The credential itself (CPMS™ letters after your name), a listing in the Premarital Counseling Directory™, private community access with other CPMS™-certified clinicians, a standing discount on MyMHU® CE courses, opt-in Speaker Bureau inclusion, and ongoing refresher training and case consultation.
How much does the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) credential cost for clinicians?
The CPMS™ Certification Pathway is one credential earned in steps. Every tier is built on The Before I Do Method™.
- Introduction to Premarital Practice, $497 · 11 CE credits. The entry point for every clinician, covering The Before I Do Method™ and its research base, with questionnaires, a post-test, and a certificate of completion. No post-name credential. Completing it opens enrollment in the Specialist certification.
- CPMS™ Specialist, $2,495 · 16 CE credits. ★ The core credential: The Before I Do Method™ at clinical depth, two assessed video role plays, the certification exam, listing in the Premarital Counseling Directory™, and the CPMS™ post-name credential.
- CPMS™ Lead Premarital Specialist, $2,997. The educator pathway for clinicians who teach The Before I Do Method™, with a premium directory listing and wholesale materials pricing. Requires an active Specialist credential.
- CPMS™ Master Premarital Specialist, $5,997. The top of the pathway, with master-level training, supervision authority over Lead candidates, and revenue share. Requires an active Lead credential.

Does the Certified Pre-Marital Specialist™ (CPMS™) credential require annual renewal?
Yes. Once you complete Specialist, Lead, or Master, you're automatically enrolled in the $197/year renewal, which begins 12 months after your certification purchase. You'll get a courtesy email seven days before each charge. Renewal keeps your credential active, your directory listing live, and your access to the practitioner community, refresher training, and case consultation.
Do CPMS™-certified clinicians get automatic listing in the national Premarital Counseling Directory™?
Yes. CPMS™-certified clinicians are listed at premaritalcounselingdirectory.com as part of the credential, so couples looking for a specialist can find you.

What is the difference between The Before I Do Method™ for Couples online course and the printed Guide and Workbook?
The course (The Before I Do Method™ for Couples) is a self-paced, video-based premarital program that couples work through together at their own pace. One price covers you both.
The books (the Guide and Workbook) are the print companions, designed to be used with or without the course, or by clinicians and clergy alongside their own premarital work. Some couples use the course and the books together, and some just want the books. Both paths work.
Is The Before I Do Method™ inclusive of LGBTQIA+ and polyamorous couples?
Yes, explicitly. The Before I Do Method™ was designed from the ground up to work for all couples, including LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, blended, interfaith, and intercultural relationships. It holds space for the actual shape of your relationship, not a template that assumes one kind of couple.
Do couples need a therapist to complete The Before I Do Method™ course, or can they use it independently?
No therapist is needed. The books and the couples course were built to be used by couples on their own. If you'd like a specialist to walk with you, you can find a CPMS™-certified clinician at premaritalcounselingdirectory.com.
Can partners complete The Before I Do Method™ course separately or does it require working together?
Both, and we recommend a parallel-then-together rhythm. Each partner works through the Workbook prompts independently, then you come back together for structured conversations. That way you're bringing your actual thoughts to the table, not just co-signing your partner's answers in real time.
What is the refund policy for The Before I Do Method™ course and books?

Are The Before I Do Method™ Guide and Workbook available in digital format?
Print only. The Guide and Workbook are available exclusively in physical print. There is no digital or e-book edition, and no digital release is planned. US shipping only at this time.

Domestic violence awareness training for licensed Maryland beauty professionals.
Which Maryland licensed professionals are required to complete domestic violence awareness training under HB 1547?
Maryland-licensed cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians, and nail technicians are required to complete domestic violence awareness training as part of licensing. If you're licensed under the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists or the Maryland Board of Barbers, this training is for you.
Does My Mental Health University®'s DV Awareness Training satisfy Maryland HB 1547 licensing requirements for cosmetologists and barbers?
Yes. This training is designed to satisfy the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists' and Maryland Board of Barbers' domestic violence awareness requirement.
How long is the Maryland State-Approved domestic violence awareness training for beauty professionals?
The training is designed to be completed in about 1 hour. It is self-paced, so you can pause and resume as needed.
Do I receive a certificate of completion the same day I finish the Maryland DV Awareness Training?
Yes. On completion, your certificate is issued instantly and downloadable from your account. Print it, email it, or store the PDF for your license renewal records.
