The Hidden Wave: Perimenopause, ADHD & Adult Women in Clinical Practice

A continuing education course for clinicians on the overlap most of us were never trained to see — and how to support women in midlife who are quietly struggling.

My Mental Health University

What you would learn?

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Learning Objective 1. Describe the neurobiological overlap between perimenopausal hormonal change and ADHD symptom presentation in adult women.

Learning Objective 2. Explain how fluctuating and declining estrogen affects executive function, attention, working memory, and emotional regulation.

Learning Objective 3. Differentiate perimenopause-driven cognitive change from primary ADHD and from co-occurring presentations.

Learning Objective 4. Apply screening and assessment strategies for women presenting with attention, memory, and mood concerns in midlife.

Learning Objective 5. Develop a clinically informed, collaborative treatment and referral plan that addresses both hormonal and ADHD-related factors.

Why this course

Roughly one in three of your female clients in their 40s is navigating perimenopause — and many of them are describing it in the language of attention, memory, and overwhelm. Brain fog. Lost words. A to-do list that suddenly feels impossible. Emotional swings that don’t match the situation.

For some, these are perimenopausal symptoms. For others, they are ADHD traits that estrogen was quietly masking for decades — now surfacing all at once. For many, it is both, tangled together in a way that is easy to miss and easy to mislabel as anxiety, depression, or "just stress."

Most clinicians were never trained on this overlap. This course closes that gap.
